Social Explorer, Dover, Vermont, 2019-present. Consultant. Responsible for generating short- and medium-form content for award-winning demographics site that specializes in Census data.

MapLight.Org, Berkeley, Calif., 2016-present. Contributing editor for content, responsible for developing original reporting about U.S. campaign finance and money in politics issues, as well as other good governance issues.

Al Jazeera International, Washington, 2013-2015. Producer/editor/reporter, global investigations team. Responsible for assisting 26-member team in Washington, San Francisco, London and Doha with international enterprise reporting and production of long-form documentaries and projects.

Author of Health is Everything (USC Annenberg, 2012) and Guide to the Census (Wiley, 2013).

The Associated Press, New York/Boston/Washington, 1997-2009. Director, computer investigations. Responsible for investigative and enterprise projects. Author of the Associated Press Guide to Internet Research and Reporting (Perseus, 2002) and lead news manager for Census coverage. Won and contributed to multiple national award-winning stories, including the 2006 Gerald Loeb Award for Business Reporting and the 2006 APME Enterprise Reporting Award. Trained hundreds of news reporters, editors, managers and students on five continents.

The Wall Street Journal, Houston, TX, 1995-97. Reporter, Texas Journal. Responsible for weekly analysis of regional stocks and “Heard on the Street” column, as well as regional "A-heds" and coverage of health care reform during administration of former Gov. George W. Bush.

The Houston Post, Houston, TX, 1991-95. Senior reporter responsible for medical and enterprise investigative coverage. Won and contributed to multiple state reporting and writing awards, including 1994 Texas Headliners Foundation Reporter of the Year. Helped develop Toasted Posties, cited among top 100 Texas-based websites of 1996.

The Alabama Journal, Montgomery, AL, 1986-89. Reporter responsible for health, environment and state agency coverage. Won and contributed to multiple national reporting and writing awards, including 1988 Pulitzer Prize for General News Reporting and 1988 APME Public Service Award.
